Delete your account or data
Last updated
This page explains how to delete your PapiDNS account, or just some of your data, and what happens to your data when you do. PapiDNS (listed as “PapiDNS – Manage External DNS” on the App Store) is an app by Trees and Rain LLC.
You don’t need the app, a sign-in or a reinstall to use the web form. This page is also our Facebook data deletion instructions.
Ways to delete
Choose whichever suits you. A full account deletion removes the same data either way.
- In the app (fastest). Menu → Delete Account. Your account is deleted immediately. See the steps.
- Web form. No app, sign-in or reinstall needed. We confirm by email that the account is yours, then complete the deletion within 30 days. Go to the form.
Signing out, uninstalling PapiDNS, or removing it from your Apple or Google settings doesn’t delete your PapiDNS account.
Delete your account in the app
- Open PapiDNS on your iPhone or iPad. You need to be signed in.
- Tap the menu button at the top right of the home screen.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Type DELETE in the box, then tap Delete Account.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. Your account and the data listed under What we delete are removed from our servers right away, and we can’t restore them. If you sign in again later with the same Apple or Google account, PapiDNS starts a new, empty account.
Request deletion on the web
Use this form if you don’t have the app, can’t sign in, or want only some of your data deleted. Here’s what happens:
- You tell us the email address on your PapiDNS account and how you sign in.
- We email that address to confirm the account is yours. Reply to confirm. We don’t delete anything until you do.
- We complete verified requests within 30 days and email you a confirmation when it’s done.
Signed in with Apple and chose Hide My Email? Your account email is the private relay address Apple created for PapiDNS. It ends in @privaterelay.appleid.com. Enter that address; Apple forwards our email to your real inbox. You can look it up in your device’s Sign in with Apple settings for PapiDNS (see Signed in with Apple).
This is the same form as our contact page, with “Delete my account or data” already chosen.
Asking on someone else’s behalf? Use the form and say so in the details. We still confirm with the account holder before deleting anything.
What you enter in the form is emailed to our private support inbox so we can act on it. Vercel BotID, run by our website host, checks that a person is submitting it; if it can’t tell, the form asks you to tick a box that runs a short check in your browser, verified by our own servers. Resend delivers the email, and Vercel keeps short-lived request logs, including your IP address. We keep your request as described under What we keep. Our privacy policy has the details.
Delete only some of your data
You don’t have to delete your whole account. You can do these yourself in the app at any time:
- Delete a saved API key. In Settings (in the app’s menu), open the key’s menu and tap Delete. Its encrypted data is removed from our servers right away. There’s no confirmation step, so check you picked the right key.
- Forget a remembered key on this device. In Settings, open the key’s menu and tap Forget passphrase on this device. The app will ask for your passphrase next time.
For anything else, use the form and choose “Delete only some of my data and keep my account”. Tell us what to delete: for example your bug reports and their screenshots, your feature requests, or a saved key you can’t reach in the app. We confirm by email and complete it within 30 days, the same as a full deletion.
What we delete
When you delete your account in the app, or when we complete your verified request, we delete the following from our servers right away:
- Your account and sign-in record: your Apple or Google user ID, your email address and, if you signed in with Google, the name and profile photo link Google shared.
- Your saved API keys: the encrypted keys and secrets, the encrypted copies of the keys that unlock them, and each key’s name and settings.
- Your bug reports and their screenshot files.
- Your feature requests.
A few things take longer to delete or are kept after deletion. They’re listed below.
What stays on your device
Deleting your account removes your data from our servers. The app doesn’t yet clear everything it saved in your device’s Keychain: a note of which key was active and, if you chose “Remember on this device”, the key that unlocked your saved API key. On their own they’re useless, because the encrypted API keys they unlocked are deleted from our servers with your account.
To remove them anyway, before you delete your account open each key’s menu in Settings and tap Forget passphrase on this device, then Deactivate on this device for the active key. iOS keeps Keychain items even after an app is deleted; erasing the device removes them.
What we keep, and for how long
| Data | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in audit log entries (account ID, email address, the name your sign-in provider shares, and the time and type of each sign-in event) | Not deleted automatically. Ask us and we’ll delete yours within 30 days | Security: spotting and investigating suspicious sign-ins. |
| Database backups | Roll off within 30 days | Recovering from outages or data loss. Backups are replaced on a rolling schedule. |
| Server, sign-in and website logs (IP address, device and browser details, request times) | Up to 30 days | Security, preventing abuse and fixing problems. |
| Your support and deletion-request emails, and our record that your deletion was completed | Up to 24 months | Legal and compliance: showing that we handled your request, and answering follow-up questions. |
| Purchase and subscription records | Kept by Apple under its own policies | Apple processes Premium subscriptions and keeps its own records. We don’t hold a copy. |
When a period ends, the data is deleted. We don’t keep any of it longer to use for anything else.
Your GoDaddy account and keys
Deleting your PapiDNS account doesn’t change anything at GoDaddy. Your domains and DNS records stay as they are, and your GoDaddy API keys keep working until you delete them at GoDaddy. If you created a key just for PapiDNS, delete it at developer.godaddy.com/keys too.
Cancel Premium
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap PapiDNS, then Cancel Subscription.
You keep Premium until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Apple keeps your purchase history.
If you signed in with Apple
- Delete your PapiDNS account in the app, or request deletion with the form above.
- Then, on your iPhone or iPad open Settings, tap your name, then Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple. Choose PapiDNS and tap the option to stop using it.
Stopping Sign in with Apple removes PapiDNS’s access to your Apple Account, but on its own it doesn’t delete your PapiDNS data. If you use Hide My Email and ask us to delete your account through the form, wait for our confirmation email before you do step 2, so our emails to your relay address still reach you.
If you signed in with Google
- Delete your PapiDNS account in the app, or request deletion with the form above.
- Go to myaccount.google.com/connections, select PapiDNS, and choose Delete all connections you have with PapiDNS.
Removing the connection stops Google from sharing your information with PapiDNS, but on its own it doesn’t delete your PapiDNS data.
If you signed in with Facebook
PapiDNS doesn’t currently offer Facebook Login. If you ever signed in to PapiDNS with Facebook, you can delete that account and everything we received from Facebook (your app-scoped Facebook user ID, name, email address and profile photo link) this way:
- Delete your PapiDNS account in the app, or request deletion with the form above and choose “Continue with Facebook” as your sign-in method. If you know your app-scoped Facebook user ID, you can add it in the optional field.
- In the Facebook app or on facebook.com, go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites.
- Find PapiDNS and choose Remove.
Removing PapiDNS in Facebook stops Facebook from sharing your information with us, but on its own it doesn’t delete the data we already have. Step 1 does that.
How long it takes
- In the app: immediately.
- Web form: we email your account address to confirm it’s you. Once you reply, we complete the deletion within 30 days and email you a confirmation. Requests to delete only some data follow the same timeline.
- Within 30 days after deletion: server logs are deleted, and backups containing your data roll off. Sign-in audit log entries stay until you ask us to delete them.
- Within 24 months: we delete your request emails and our record that we completed the deletion.
